How to Make Traditional Moroccan Mint Tea (The Proper Way)

✨ Why It’s Special:

Mint tea is more than just a drink in Morocco — it’s a symbol of hospitality, culture, and tradition. The process of making it is almost ceremonial and represents friendship, welcome, and respect.

🍵 Ingredients (Serves 4):

  • 1 tablespoon Chinese Gunpowder green tea leaves
  • 1 large bunch fresh spearmint (preferably Moroccan mint)
  • 3–4 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 4 cups boiling water

👩🏽‍🍳 Instructions:

1️⃣ Rinse the Tea:
Place tea leaves in a teapot. Pour in a small amount of boiling water, swirl gently to rinse, and discard the water. This removes bitterness and cleans the leaves.

2️⃣ Brew:
Add the full 4 cups of boiling water to the teapot with the rinsed tea. Let steep for 2 minutes.

3️⃣ Flavor:
Add the fresh mint leaves and sugar directly to the pot.

4️⃣ Pour & Mix:
Pour the tea into small glasses, then pour it back into the pot 2–3 times to mix the sugar and infuse the mint fully.

5️⃣ Serve:
Traditionally, Moroccan tea is poured from a height to create a light foam on top. Serve hot and enjoy!
